I think it is simple why nations and countries put up walls.To keep people from other nations and countries.That wall is saying you are not good enough to come in here.
The reason they keep making he border bigger is to try to stop people from getting through it.We keep people who have done nothing wrong.They just want a job and help and you won't give it to them.

The sad part of the message is that, in the end, the border message can continue, even after people have crossed it. In a sense, the border becomes permanent.
